About the Password Generator
Generates a random password from a character set you choose, and shows the entropy in bits as you change the length and the alphabet, so you can see what each choice is actually buying you.
When you would use it
- Creating a password for an account you will store in a password manager.
- Deciding how long a password needs to be for a given character set.
- Generating a one-off value for a token, seed or test fixture.
What it does not tell you
Entropy measures the generator, not your habits. A 128-bit password reused across three sites is as weak as the weakest of the three. Randomness here comes from the browser cryptographic generator rather than Math.random, but a password is only as private as the machine you generate it on.
