Hash Generator
MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 digests of any text.
Everything here runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type, paste, or upload is ever sent to a server, logged, or stored.
About the Hash Generator
Produces the MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 digest of whatever you type or paste. A digest is a fixed-length fingerprint of the input: the same input always produces the same digest, and changing a single character changes the whole thing.
When you would use it
- Checking that a file or string you received matches a checksum someone published.
- Comparing two long values quickly by comparing their digests instead.
- Seeing what a given input hashes to while debugging something that stores hashes.
What it does not tell you
A hash is not encryption and it is not a password store. MD5 and SHA-1 are both broken for anything security-critical — two different inputs can be forced to share a digest — and they are offered here because you still meet them in existing systems, not because you should choose them. Passwords need a slow, salted algorithm such as bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2, which this tool deliberately does not pretend to provide.
